At The Covering, we empower men to become the nucleus of their families through a comprehensive range of programs. Our services include vocational skills training, mental health counseling, housing assistance, support for budding entrepreneurs, and legal aid. By addressing both personal and systematic barriers, we dedicate ourselves to nurturing strong providers, mentors, preservers, and leaders.
We empower men with the skills needed for gainful employment through comprehensive vocational training programs. Our workshops and courses cover a variety of trades and professions, providing practical, hands-on experience and industry-recognized certifications. By equipping men with these skills, we help them secure stable and fulfilling employment opportunities.
Our clients receive initial case management screening that assesses self- sufficiency in the following domains: housing, employment, food, education, health care coverage, family/social relations, mobility, parenting skills, legal, mental health, addiction, safety and disabilities. The case worker and client will create goals to address unmet needs and clients will be referred to community partners for mental health and addiction services.
We ensure stable and secure housing for men and their families through our housing assistance program. Whether it’s finding temporary shelter, securing permanent housing, or providing support for home improvement, we are committed to creating safe and nurturing living environments. Our goal is to help men and their families achieve long-term stability and independence.
We encourage and support men to start and grow their own businesses through our entrepreneurship program. Participants receive training in business planning, financial management, marketing, and more. Our mentors and coaches provide ongoing support, helping men turn their entrepreneurial dreams into reality and contribute positively to their communities.
Our legal referral services offer assistance to men navigating legal challenges. We connect participants with experienced legal professionals who provide advice and representation on issues such as family law, employment rights, housing disputes, and more. Our goal is to ensure that men have the legal support they need to overcome obstacles and protect their rights.
The Covering’s Urban Gardening Initiative teaches men how to grow their own food, fish, and be self-sustaining. This program not only promotes self-reliance and sustainability but also fosters a sense of accomplishment and community involvement. Participants learn essential skills in urban agriculture, aquaponics, and sustainable living practices, creating a positive impact on their health and well-being.
We are excited to announce our project to rehabilitate one of only two Safe Houses for Men in the entire country. This LightHouse will provide crucial shelter and support for men who are targets of emotional abuse and domestic violence. We are seeking donations to help make this vision a reality. Your support can provide a safe and secure environment for those in need.
The Family Support Division (FSD) partners with The Covering to support men affected by economic instability, racial injustice, and recidivism. Through case management, economic development, entrepreneurship, and agricultural science, we help men become responsible fathers, build healthy relationships, and reunify with their families.
